Startling News: Men much more likely to become Gay Later in Life

August 16, 2008

I found this story to be VERY shocking.  Apparently, according to the very respectable Medicinenet.com, men between the ages of 57-82 are MUCH more likely to be having sex with each other, rather than a female partner. According to the story – 68 percent of men between the ages of 57-85 had sex last YEAR.  Ok – that in of itself is sort of depressing, right?

Here is where my math gets fuzzy…

But only 42% of the women had sex.  (also pretty scary, huh?)  Now – we’ve either got a small elder generation of VERY loose women taking care of a disproportionately large part of the adult male population, or we’ve got a whole bunch of gay older guys walking around in Boca Raton, Florida.  I’m not sure which it is, but you can read the whole story at the link below..;-)

A satisfying sex life is possible as you age into your 70s and 80s, new research suggests. Many older Americans are apparently taking advantage of that fact, because 68 percent of men between 57 and 85 reported having sex last year, as did 42 percent of women, according to the study’s lead author, Edward Laumann, the George Herbert Mead Distinguished Service Professor of Sociology at the University of Chicago. And, Laumann added, more older women might have wanted to have sex, but there just aren’t as many available older men for them to partner with.
