The Streets of New York
August 19, 2009

The appeal of army boots is as much functional as sartorial, so the usual ad tricks—people wearing them, for instance—don’t work quite as well. Luckily, you can always get creative…
These spots for the French Legion-approved Palladium Boots line explore New York’s abandoned spaces, some of which are pretty fantastic and all of which require some pretty rugged footwear. The campaign comes with a documentary on a few of the more interesting spots, and it’ll presumably tell you how to find them in the bargain. And if the style seems familiar, there’s a reason: the whole thing was cooked up by Virtue, the advertising wing of Vice Magazine. No wonder Brooklyn’s so well-represented…

Wild Eyes

The liberty prints are piling up, but this is the first one we’ve seen that doesn’t bother with cloth. The shade designers at Super plastered three of the more iconic liberty patterns across the top bar of their best clear-bottomed frame, and the result is pure trend candy. We wouldn’t count on wanting to wear these when next summer rolls around, but for the next few months they’ll be just about golden.

Take Over

Japanese workwear is one of our most rewarding obsessions, so we’re always interested in the latest crop.
Luckily, we just got a peek at a few Spring/Summer 2010 items from the folks at Post Overalls, and it’s enough to get our depression-era nostalgia going one more time. There’s a Suzuki-esque vest, an unstructured white jacket and a full complement of busy vintage patterns. Our favorite is the leafy green button-up…but it’s a crowded field.

Two of Us

She & Him may have a lot to answer for.
On the heels of her widely tolerated Anywhere I Lay My Head, Scarlett Johansson is prepping an album with soft-rock crooner Pete Yorn. The album was recorded before Ms. Deschanel ever connected with M. Ward, but the pair decided to keep it under wraps until the time was right. But now that ScarJo’s making preliminary rounds for Iron Man 2, the iron is most definitely hot, and the magazine circuit is willing to oblige. Sadly, the only leaked tracks have been conveniently muted, but curious parties can still check out the promo trailer. Fair warning: it’s a tease»
